All this week the mini series Torchwood: Children of Earth is being shown nightly on BBC1. Made largely by the same production team that bring us Doctor Who, Torchwood has an exclusively adult format. Torchwood is a secret organisation charged with saving the world on a daily basis ...usually in Cardiff!
Torchwood's darker style and design lend itself very much to my neo pop art style of painting. I confess I really enjoy creating these sexy paintings of Torchwood characters, my favourite subject being Gwen Cooper, played by gorgeous welsh actress Eve Myles.
During the second series episode in which she married her long suffering fiance there was a scene where she danced with Jack This was after a previous scene where the characters almost kissed. This theme is represented in these two canvas paintings (above and below), each measuring 3ft by 2ft.

I was asked to produce a painting of David Tennant by a fan. Standing on the mountains of Gallifrey, the city of the Timelords in the background, under images of the previous nine Doctors in the Gallifreyan sky. The brief was quite specific and the result was only partially successful I felt.
The painting was given to David Tennant as a gift. He auctioned the painting in aid of the charity Accord, announcing it through his official website. Signed by the actor and placed on ebay the painting eventually raised £1550!
I photographed the painting prior to adding David Tennant as I loved the sci-fi nature of the scene! I had great fun painting the snowy lanscape which up close is really quite rich with colours.

Themselves now a pop art icon, the Daleks featured in the series second story and in 1964 the country was dominated by 'Dalekmania'! Though simplistic in design their singular personality fed the imagination of children sending them scurrying 'behind the sofa'. 
Featured in last year's series of DOCTOR WHO, the cutest 'monsters' ever brought to television!

Exceedingly well made, filmed across Europe. Great fun. The Wolf was everybody's favourite character. Its still one of the best things ever made for television. Check it out on Amazon.
Hepburn's first role in a motion picture was in the British film One Wild Oat in which she played a hotel receptionist. She played several more minor roles in Young Wives' Tale, Laughter in Paradise, The Lavender Hill Mob, and Monte Carlo Baby.
From her Wiki entry: "Hepburn's Holly Golightly in 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's became an iconic character in American cinema. She called the role "the jazziest of my career". Asked about the acting challenge of the role, she replied, "I'm an introvert. Playing the extroverted girl was the hardest thing I ever did." She wore trendy clothing in the film designed by her and Givenchy and added blonde streaks to her brown hair, a look that she would keep off-screen as well."
Heroes: Favourite character on most people's list has to be Hiro! Best image in my opinion is right back in the pilot episode, where Hiro first attempts long distance teleportation. Opens his eyes and finds himself in the middle of Times Square New York. "Yatttaaa!"
I've painted this image many times. I've settled on a style which, while painted with acrylics, has an almost watercolour feel to it, due to the washes, especially of the light reflecting on the wet ground.
My first pass was done in pretty much a pop art style, with just a few of the colours picked out. Actually, it might have been one of the first works I sold on-line. It had an almost comic book look about it which I think was somewhat in line with the artwork seen in heroes.
I painted a few fan-art canvases featuring mostly Hiro and Claire, while experimenting with different painting methods.
One popular feature of the series are the Isaac Mendez paintings, rendered in real life by comics artist Tim Sale. Mr Sale is actually colour blind so paints his artwork in black and white, before handing it over to a colourist who finishes the work.
The most famous of which is probably "The Kiss", again an image from very early on in the series. It looks kinda nice on a square deep edge canvas!
Jack was originally going to be killed off in the pilot! Unthinkable now since he's at the centre of the show. Kate was cool at the start but I'm afraid I haven't really noticed her lately. There is a very good reson for this though....And one of my favourite all time series has just 2 more years to go. '24'. Though its a testement to its success that Fox are able to make such a commitment in an industry where series are usually renewed a season at a time. And after that, the rumour is that a feature film will round out the adventures of Jack Bauer; the U.S's own James Bond!
JB was an obvious character to paint and I've done so several times now. A shame President Palmer is no longer in the series as I would have loved to paint him too. I may yet someday. Next series I'm looking forward to seeing Katee Sackoff fresh from her role as Starbuck on the incredible Battlestar Galactica.

I first came across this artist on Facebook about a year ago. Ian Cook, a Birmingham artist is now famous in the world of Formula 1 and motor racing events for his unique painting method using only radio-controlled cars.
He has had national press attention covering some of his recent works, and is at this year's F1 at Silverstone according to his Twitter entries. Last year he created a very cool 3-storey portrait of F1 champion Lewis Hamilton in London.
